On April 30, 2025, the U.S. House Judiciary Committee published a draft legislation proposing to transfer all functions, personnel, and funding from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ). If this proposal is adopted, the DOJ would solely handle the enforcement of laws regarding mergers and monopolization, while the FTC would maintain its emphasis on consumer protection. At present, both agencies share the responsibility for enforcing these laws.
