Antitrust law has historically encountered difficulties in reconciling the economic dynamics of professional sports with traditional competitive frameworks. Courts recognize that leagues require coordination to present a cohesive product; however, they also caution that this coordination can sometimes exceed what is necessary for efficiency. The legal dispute between NASCAR and two of its teams offers a compelling context for economic modeling. NASCAR operates as a league with teams participating within it.
